Under my left rib cage ... I get this sudden sharp pain like there's an air bubble under my ribs and it lasts for a couple minutes and it hurts if I breathe or move a certain direction. then, suddenly it feels like it pops, which hurts even more, but then the pain is gone and i feel fine.

I get it maybe a couple times a month.

I don't have any other symptoms like belching or breast pain or anything so I'm really confused. it's not like this hurts my everyday lifestyle it's just really painful and inconvenient when i'm doing something because the pain is so sharp and random. does anyone know what this could be?

Hi Diana,
I could be a number of things - I've had the same type of sypmtoms a while back, and it was also just once in a while - didn't seem like eneough going on to see a Dr about. Anyway, in all my internet travels the best I could come up with for myself was hiatal hernia. Mine seemed to happen mostly when I would bend over.
Since I kind of self diagnosed myself, I also self treated by changing my diet to exclude as much as possible fatty, greasy, etc... foods (as much as I could). Now I hardly notice the pain at all - your message reminded me that I don't have it anymore.

This is just an idea, but if it really bother you, do get it checked out.

I've had this before, not anymore though. The doc said it was the lung sticking to the rib then it would release. My name is Diana too. (wink) Yes, it is very painful and I couldn't breath out. Just had to wait it out. Hope this is ALL you have.

Hi I had the same type of pain and it was my gallbladder- Iknow its on your right side and the pain is on the left- weird. thats how it works sometimes- it wraps around behind you and is painfull on the left side ?! Might be something to consider.
