Angry don't trust my doctor :(

I had vaginal itchiness (around the small labia and the opening of the vagina) before and after my last period (6th of November) so I made an appointment to see a doctor today. Three days before I went to see a doctor, the itchiness disappear (while writing this I still don't feel any itchiness). Despite this, I went to see the doctor anyways. I asked her if she could do a slide for me so that I know for sure if it's Yeast Infection. She said it is not necessary and went on to prescribe me a vagina cream and drugs. She said that other disease in the vagina won't cause itchiness; only Yeast Infection do. I really don't think so. I think that she does not spend enough time to diagnose my problem. She didn't even look at my Vagina!

What should I do now? I'm not sure if I've had (or am having) a Yeast Infection without an exam. I feel uncomfortable taking medication without a real diagnose.

Any comment welcome.

Re: don't trust my doctor :(

I would be upset, too.

Itchiness isn't always caused by yeast, it could be just a little irritation or something. Still, yeast doesn't usually just go away on its own after just a few days like that. Just for comparison: when I have yeast, the itching is so bad I can't sleep.

If I were you, I might just wait and see if it comes back or stays gone.

Re: don't trust my doctor :(

You should always trust your instincts - if they are telling you that your doctor is not listening and rushing through your patient care, then you need to find someone else.

Just think, a yeast infection is a pretty mild thing for most people, however, what would you do if you had a major problem? Would you be comfortable going back to that doctor? Would you trust their judgement and their diagnosis?

Think of yourself and what you may need for the future and find someone new! Good luck!

Re: don't trust my doctor :(

Thanks for your replies. Yes I'll definitely change doctor; will never go to see this doctor again. What annoys me the most is that she didn't even ask about my sexual activity to rule out STD; though I'm certain that it's not STD because my husband and I both have had STD tests!!!

The thing is, should I take the medication? I don't feel like I should because I don't have any Yeast Infection symptoms since last Friday (I saw the dr. yesterday). No more itchiness, never had chessy discharge, no abnormal smell. I probably never have had a Yeast Infection.

I assumed that lifestyle changes contribute to the disappearance of symptoms: cut down sugar intake; wash down there without soap, make sure the water is not too hot. After I did these things the symptoms go away. I told the doctor these changes of habits but she didn't take them into account. how can I trust her and take her medication???

Re: don't trust my doctor :(

Typically you shouldn't use any medications for yeast infections without a proper diagnosis first. Women who have suffered previously with yeast infections have a bit more leeway since they already know the symptoms and have had other concerns ruled out by a doctor.

It sounds as though the symptoms that were initially bothering you have gone away. If that is the case, there is no need to bombard your body with un-neccesary medication, that poses the potential to throw things out of whack.

Continue to keep an eye on yourself and if you feel the symptoms coming back, take that time to visit your new doctor for a real diagnosis. Good luck!
