| Re: what do you do with a septate hymen?
I have the same thing. A lot of times, you don't even notice it. But sometimes you'll put your tampon in a different way, and when you go to take it out later, it'll catch on some extra skin. If you take your time and move the skin out of the way, then the tampon will come out. I'm guessing that's what you're talking about...
If you can get a tampon in, you should be fine when it comes time to have sex, so I wouldn't worry about "trying to break it yourself." When you have sex, just make sure it's with someone you can talk to. If they go slow, and go in on the right side, at the right direction, it won't hurt. After having sex a few times, you'll know what the "right direction" is and it won't make any difference. And he doesn't even have to know.
It's really not a big deal unless you're totally sealed up, which it sounds like you're not (since you're using tampons). I've been going to a doctor for my annual exams for about 5 years now, and they've actually never mentioned it, or said it was a concern at all, and typically just say that everything looks fine.
Honestly, I don't think it's going to "rip" and I really don't think it's going to "fall off". And I believe Diane is wrong in saying that using a tampon will cause bacterial infections. It isn't an open, gaping wound or anything...it's just more skin on one side of the vagina that some other women don't have.
So, if the tampons are working, and sometimes you just have to be careful about how you take them out, then I really think sex won't be a big deal, and I really don't think your mom or your doctor are going to think anything about it. If you want, just mention it to your doctor next time and they can clear up any confusion.
