Sore throat/Flu like symptoms before period
I'm 27 and for the past five years or more I've been experiencing the strangest symptoms. About a week before my period I get flu like symptoms. Very sore throat, runny nose, coughing, phlegm, ear aches...the whole nine yards. I get so sick that it interferes with my daily life, as in I have to call in sick to work because I'm sick in bed. A few weeks ago I had my gynecological annual exam. Everything turned up normal. (I do, however, have PCOS which is managed with the birth control pill Desogen, healthy diet, and exercise.) What strikes me as odd about this whole situation is that as soon as I get my period, the flu like symptoms disappear and I'm fine.
I don't know what causes this or what can be done to stop it from reoccurring in the future. There isn't much out there on the web and my obgyn doesn't know what to make of this either. Could it be related to my PCOS? I'm not sure where to turn to for help. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
