Question High count of white blood cells in urine?

Im a 22 yr old woman and just out of the blue got in to see a doctor after years on not having an actual doctor i went in to see if I am aneimic. So got some blood work done and urine test. Doctor called and said he needs to do some follow up tests because in my urine i had lots of white blood cells and that I might have a bladder infection. I should mention to the doc when i go in that i have never had a papshmere done but because i havent had sex yet, but my cousin just told me that i should have gotten one no matter what. My bladder doesnt hurt nor does it hurt when I pee but the doc asked if i pee alot...which i do but i think thats because i drink alot of fluids. Is anyone out there that has had this happen or something similar? Because im freakin out!?!

Re: High count of white blood cells in urine?

A high wbc count in your urine generally means some sort of infection. I had a UTI just last week and like you, early on before the infection got bad, I was peeing ALOT more than usual but had no other symptoms. Eventually, the pain and burning came. Hopefully if there is in fact an infection, you will have caught it early enough to prevent any major pain.

Just a question, when you go to the bathroom, are you peeing alot? Or just a little bit? If it is just a little bit, that is another sign of a UTI.

Relax, I'm sure if anything its probably a simple infection that can be easily treated!

Good Luck!

Shanna

Re: High count of white blood cells in urine?

The high count of white blood cells could indicate pyuria, which is an infection in your urinary system. You do not need to mention that you have not had a PAP smear because you are not sexually active. The high count has nothing to do with your reproductive system. However, you need to get this (your urine results) checked out as soon as possible because you could have terrible complications if the infection progresses to your kidneys.
