Is this something to be concerned about???

I had my baby 9 days ago. I had an Episiotomy. I am unsure as to how bad it was as I wasn't told. But ever since then when I have needed to 'toot' (expel gas) I have been unable to control it. I am unable to control any muscles of the anus when it comes to going to the toilet for a #2.

Is this normal?? Should I be concerned??? Or should I keep doing the kegels excersises I have been given and expect everything to return to normal?? I am really worried that when I have people to visit or I have to go out shopping that something embarrassing will happen.... Please help!!!!

Re: Is this something to be concerned about???

I think if you do the exercises it will help, everything gets very stretched after childbirth but if you do the exercises regularly things will tighten again and you will gain more control! If you don't see ANY improvement within a couple of weeks i would ask your midwife/health visitor/equivilant, (if you have anyone like that) it may be worth putting it by them to avoid giving yourself unnecessary worry. I had stitches when i had my first and i'm pretty sure i was the same for a while, very sore and bruised so it was easiest to just get to the loo quick! Good luck
