Pregnancy due date question

I am not pregnant, my son is 19 months old. I keep thinking back to when i got pregnant and my due date. My periods were always very predictable and I wrote them down each month. I knew exactly when I was ovulating and can almost bet that exact time I got pregnant with my son.

DH and I had sex on a Friday in Feb. - right when I figured I was ovulating - two weeks after my period. Two weeks later - I was pregnant!

I did the pregnancy calculator tests on line and all of them said my due date would be 11/7. However, when I went to the OBGYN, they told me my due date was 11/27. I always wondered why this was sooooo much later. I knew my cycle and when I conceived, why was their date different from the on-line dates?

Well lo and behold, I had my son on 11/7/06 and he was 7 lbs. 4 oz. Now, either I had a large baby 3 weeks early, or I did go on my due date and the OBGYN was wrong. I sometimes wonder if the nurse wrote down my last period date wrong.

Anyone have something similar happen to them? Are the on-line calculators different from what OBGYN's use?

Thanks!

Re: Pregnancy due date question

This similar thing happened to my sister. She thought (according to when she had sex and an online calculator) that she would deliver on Sept. 11th. But when she went to the OBGYN, she said the 20th. She ended up delivering on the 15th (because she was induced fearing the baby was big). I think the dates get screwed up because of average sizes of fetuses and calculations they make through the sonograms. But, going with what we already know as far as dates...I think that's much more accurate actually because the doctor's really only going on percentages and averages. But, babies also could implant late and not grow as fast but then perhaps catch up, or could implant early and grow faster than usual and be big. I think it's hard to tell.
