Found a lump, need your advice! - Women's Health Message Board

I need some advice. I just had a mammogram 8 weeks ago. I was given a clean bill of health. I am 43 and every year I have to have an ultra sound too because I have dense fibrous breasts. I get cysts every year. I had one 8 weeks ago but I couldn't feel it. Now I found a lump in my left breast about the size of a grape up near the nipple. It doesn't hurt but it's like it appeared out of no where. I just happen to feel it because I was doing a little check. Now I am freaked out. The doc has told me I have fibrocystic breasts. So my question to anyone who will answer me. Since I just had a ***** 8 weeks ago. Could I get cancer this quick? And should I be seen right away? Or for those of you who have fibrocystic breasts....do you get cysts that crop up that go down as you make your way through the month or so?? I really need your help. Of course I am alarmed and will call my doctor in the morning. But I could use some advice. THANK YOU!!

I have fibrocystic breasts as well and can certainly identify with what you're going through. I've had mammograms and then found lumps some months out and would worry myself silly. I always end up just going ahead and going to my doctor to get his advice since that is the only way that I've feel better about things. Fortunately mine have never been a problem. About five years ago I switched to a group of doctors (mainly women) who are "Breast Care Specialists". Since I always have problems I felt that it would be better to go this direction. With every mammogram that I get I also have an ultrasound as well as a doctor do a manual check. I feel much better having this done.

Go ahead and schedule an appointment just so you'll feel better. Let us know, I'm sure all is fine though.

Be sure and let us know what you find out. I never felt the lumps the ***** saw, so I had no idea. But when the radiologist called me this morning it put my mind to rest - A little bit at least. She told me the masses were small, round & have smooth edges which I guess is a good sign. I go for my ultra sound & additional films this Weds.
You, Cody & myself all sound to have similar issues - Dense breasts - Does that mean they're stupid????

Maybe if we send them to college they will STOP GETTING LUMPY!!!!!

I just saw a breast surgeon today for a small lump that did not show up on mamogram or ultrasoud. (see my post below). He was quite confident it was nothing - I got the impression that he knows the feel of a bad lump, since this is what his specialty is. I don't have dense breasts, so I'm comfortable with the mamo and ultrasound not showing something that might be 'hidden' .

I'm gong back for a re-check in a month to make sure it didn't grow or change, but I'm relaxed about it for now. I don't think breast cancer just pop's up one day (I also had a clear mamogram in April). From all I've read and have been told, it takes quite a few years to develop. I do think things like cysts can develop quickly - and change with your cycle.
