I just had surgery and now period is late

Hi all,
I had my gallbladder removed laproscopically 6-26-08, and my period was due on the first of July. My cycles are usually right on time, if not early. I am not sexually active, so no chance of pregnancy or anything like that. My question is, is it possible that the surgery affected my menstrual cycle?

Kelly

Re: I just had surgery and now period is late

It's entirely possible surgery is the cause. It's both physically and mentally stressful, and stress is a major cause of late periods.

If it doesn't show up next month, then worry.

Re: I just had surgery and now period is late

A friend of mine just had a gallbladder operation arthroscopically too, and her period was late, also! And I have found that any time I've had surgery, I've been late, too. As the previous poster said, surgery of any kind is very traumatic to your body. The anesthesia messes you up and the procedure itself causes an extreme stress on your body. So, it really shouldn't be all that surprising that it affected your cycle.
