Bladder/Urethra issues after delivery

I'm just wondering if anyone had any bladder/urethra issues after they gave birth. I had to have a catheter inserted after I had my son because I could not pee (it stayed in for 24 hours). It was the worse feeling. I had to go so bad, but no matter how long I sat it wouldn't come out. I think the reason this happened was because I was ready push at a certain time, but because my doctor hadn't arrived yet I waited a while before I was able to start. This caused a lot of strain in "that area." I'm just wondering how common this is and if I can expect this to happen this time around. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Re: Bladder/Urethra issues after delivery

I had to have a catheter as well when in labor with my DD. Only because I had an epidural though and was not allowed to get up to go to the bathroom. It did not stay in, they just put it in to do the job and took it right back out. The only problem I had was when I came home from the hospital, I was on my way into the bedroom to go to the master bathroom and made it about half way across the room before I just started peeing right there. I don't know what the heck happened!?!? Most embarrassing!!! Anyway, it got better but never completely went away. I still have that problem if I laugh, cough, sneeze....whatever. It's quite annoying. Not sure if this is what you are talking about or not, but I can say it's no fun and I am afraid that this time around it will just get worse!

Re: Bladder/Urethra issues after delivery

I think it is pretty common, especially if you had an epidural. I had that issues with each of my babies. Just had it with #4 and it took almost a week for me not to "leak" It will take time but the best thing to do is those Kegal excercises. Good luck.
