Ok, so I'm the one who posted a couple weeks ago about the positive pg test with an IUD in place. 2 weeks ago, the IUD was removed and the dr said by u/s that we were about 5wks3days. (I know that this is too early to see the heartbeat.) He ordered another u/s that was performed yesterday. He said that we had good growth over the last 2 weeks and we are now measuring 7wks4days, but he still wasn't sure that he saw the heartbeat. (I didn't see it either) He said he thought he could, but couldn't say 100%. He re-ordered another u/s for next week. This is child #5 for us, and I know I shouldn't be too worried yet, but I am. I know that the heartbeat doesn't show on u/s until around 6-8weeks. With our first child, we saw the heartbeat at about 6-7wks with the infertility specialist, but for the others, we didn't have our first appt until after the 8-9wk mark, and the heartbeat was very visible at that time. Has anyone ever had this happen to them? Thanks for any input you may have.
I hate to pop in on your post, but I am extremely curious so please forgive me. What kind of IUD did you have in place? How did it fail? I currently have the paragard, and it will be a year at the end of September. I sometimes wonder though just how effective these things are though! Thanks so much for your time!
Good luck with your pregnancy and I wish you a healthy and strong baby!
We had the copper Paraguard IUD. This is the 2nd one we've had. The first one was between our 2nd and 3rd children, and had that one for 4 years before we decided to have it removed. This one we've had for 3 years, same type of IUD as the first. Not sure how/why it failed. However the effectiveness of the copper IUD is around 99.2% which is pretty good. When I found out we were pg, I called right away and the dr got us in. He did an u/s and found that the IUD was in fact, where it should have been. All I can say is that all things must have been just right for this to occur despite the IUD being there. I just hope things continue to work out. Good luck to you!
When I was pregnant with my dd, I started bleeding when I was around 5 weeks. They did an internal ultrasound and could see the sac but nothing else. When I was 7 weeks, I started spotting again, so went in for another ultrasound, and they could barely see a little flicker of the heart. The tech said she wasn't even sure if it was the heart beating or just her eyes trying to see it. When I went to my doc at 8 weeks, he looked on the u/s and we could definitely see a heartbeat and dd looked like a little bean with wiggly legs on. HAHA
Try not to worry, your baby may be smaller and that could be why you haven't seen the hb yet.
Just an update. We went for an u/s yesterday and the gestational sac grew another week like it should. However, the embryo was still measuring 7weeks and some change and there wasn't a heartbeat either. So, with that information, we need to make a tough decision. Either let nature take its course or have a D&C. DR said if we decide to let nature take its course, it could be days or weeks until the body realizes that the embryo isn't growing. It's a tough decision because I think we'd like to think what we saw and what the DR told us was wrong. But, I know it isn't. Ugh, I hate these kind of decisions!!
We had our d&c yesterday. Everything went as well as it could. How emotional!! The dr did another u/s for us prior to the d&c so that there were no doubts or questions. I was very glad that he did that for us even though the one was only done 2 days prior. That meant alot to us. I can't believe what an emotional roller coaster this has been for the last month. Who would of known that something that started off as a miracle would have ended up like this? I guess God had other plans for us. I guess we'll just have to put our faith in Him and try our best to move on.
