Re: does fibroids make you uterus swell
Yes and yes.
A fibroid can cause problems with the uterus sloughing (sp?) off the uterine lining each month which can cause problems with period length and heaviness. I had a 9.3cm fibroid (the size of a very large orange or a small grapefruit) and was having frequent periods (only 18-24 days apart) and they were lasting longer. My doctor said the fibroid made it so that my period sloughed more frequently to try to slough it all off. Something like that.
Because the fibroids can press on various neighboring tissue, it is possible that they could cause pain/discomfort with intercourse especially if the fibroids are on the lower part of the uterus.
There are a variety of things that can treat/remove fibroids. Hormone therapy can be used. Uterine Fibroid Embolization (also called Uterine Artery Embolization) can begin a slow (over 6 months) shrinking of the fibroids. A Myomectomy is a surgery to remove fibroids. And then there is a hysterectomy which will remove the uterus and fibroids. The hyst can be done laparoscopically, by robot, vaginally, a combo and vag and lap, or by abdominal cut. There are a LOT of options. I think there are more, but that is all I can think of right now.
I'm sorry, I'm very tired and frustrated today (from work), so I hope my answer makes some sense.
