Sex Causing Yeast Infection? Allergic Reaction?
My girlfriend and I have been having sex for a year now. Initially we used condoms, and have now stopped. She has had a problem all her sexual life where she has to urinate immediately after sex or she gets a urinary tract infection with 100% certainty. We are both aware that this is a good practice anyways, but in her case it is mandatory. In fact, even if she masturbates she will get a UTI if she doesn't urinate immediately within 15 minutes of finishing. However, this issue is effectively dealt with.
One time in every five that we have sex she ends up with a vaginal yeast infection which can be passed to me and causes some itchiness that I also have to treat. This messes up our sex life a bit. We have sex perhaps twice to three times a week, and are super militant about cleanliness before and after.
So my question runs like this:
I know it is common for women to get yeast infections after un-protected sex. I've read a million threads about it. In our case it only seems to happen every 4th or 5th time however, and is random and sporadic. She is using the birth control pill, and I do ejaculate inside her. We know that semen has a much higher pH than her normal vaginal flora, and this likely causes the unbalance, and are wondering if there is a product that she can use to assist in bringing it back into line after sex?
She ONLY gets yeast infections from unprotected sex. She doesn't have chronic BV or ongoing problems. When she was single for a year, there was NO sign of yeast at all so it is clear that semen and pH appears to be the problem - I hate being a problem!
We've been just living with this problem and treating it as it comes up, but it has become an annoyance and we both intend on staying together for a long time so this is an issue we'd ultimatley like to resolve.
She has just started taking RePhresh Pro-B Pro-biotic and we will see how that pans out, but we were standing in the aisle staring at the RepHresh vaginal gel and the concept of putting a gel inside has her a little worried. She doesn't like to use the Monastat products when she has an infection as they get a foaminess that she doesn't like and she doesn't want to have sex like that.
Has anyone used RepHresh and have any testimonials? Anyone else experiencing this problem? I am trying to help, and money isn't an issue. I've done so much reading on this topic my head hurts, but most people seem to have chronic issues. In our case, it is only after unprotected sex, and that isn't going to change as neither of us want to change that element.
Does RepHresh have a bad taste or smell or anything like that when used? I know they say it is a "clear odorless gel" but do women find it leaking out and being a nuisance after the fact?
Advice? Testimonials? Info? I know I crammed a lot into that post...
Thanks!
