| No diagnosis, but still in pain and swelling- need advice
I am looking for help with my mother. She was just released from the hospital today after being there for 4 days still with no diagnosis. Her symptoms that brought us to the ER were uncontrolled cough, vomiting, swelling in her side and front of her stomach like she was pregnant, rib pain, constant nausea, slight fever (99.5), diahera, unable to eat but hungry, feeling full and bloated to the point she could not breath and could not take a deep breath without pain stopping her. She couldn’t sleep because of the pain and couldn’t eat because of the fullness. She had been like this since Feb 08. The pain had become so severe you couldn’t even walk by her without her grabbing her side. I finally had enough of her suffering and drug her into the ER.
They did a cat scan, x-ray, blood work (lots of blood work), whole body bone scan, and a colonoscopy. Every thing normal. They did find sludge in her gall bladder, but that is it.
She is 53, diabetic, hypertension, and typically a stressed out person. Her blood pressure got as high as 258/160 while in the hospital. She had an episode (the night before they released her) of rapid heart rate so high that she couldn’t breath, they thought she was having a heart attack or stroke when she lost the use of her left side. But after about 2 hrs, she was able to get her heart to slow down and slowly her feeling came back to her left side. She had an EKG and the test for a stroke, all normal.
Her Dr came in this morning and said well you are normal, and we think you have shingles. They gave her pain patches and released her to see a specialist this week. No explanation as to the bulging side, near stroke experience, of the near death hypertension. She is still in pain, swollen and can’t eat a full meal and she looks horrible.
Any experiences like this, or anyone else have something similar? I am looking for ideas that we are missing or not thinking of? I am very concerned about her and really worried.
