| Detecting Birth Defects & Other Occurences
How early and how accurately can birth defects be detected?
I would also like to know whether it is possible to detect via ultrasound (or some other method) early on if the child is going to be intersex (I know someone who recently gave birth to a baby with both sex organs. She attended regular dr. appointments and up until the last few weeks of her pregnancy, the doctors said she was going to have a girl, when they suddenly started saying it will be a boy. Well, it turned out to be both. How is it possible that the doctors couldn't see this and prepare the family for what was to happen?
I realize that the above is a much more complex issue that occurs only in about 1% of the population; however, speaking of the modern technology's ability to reveal much about the unborn, I thought I would mention that as well. My primary question is still the ability to detect birth defects, diseases, etc.
Please respond.
Thank you.
