Hi, first of all, congratulations on your positive test!
Second, having gone through a LEEP myself (last year), I completely share your concern and I've read up quite a bit about pregnancy post LEEP. (Sorry in advance for the long post.)
The biggest potential risk during pregnancy for post-LEEP patients is risk of incompetent cervix. Meaning, due to the trauma to the cervix, there's a risk it might not be able to sustain the pregnancy and may result in pre-term labor. There haven't been a ton of great studies done, but I've read through ones done in Denmark, New Zealand, Italy, UK and a few others, and in my opinion - the findings are inconclusive.
Some studies show chance of preterm labor is twice as much in post-LEEP patients (but in one of those we're talking numbers like 6% vs. 3%, or 12% vs. 6% - so the absolute risk is only slightly greater.) Also, it seems that the depth and size of the area removed may make a difference, and that those who have had multiple LEEPS or other procedures (prior D&Cs for example) are at higher risk. Bottom line - search away, but you won't find any real definitive answer on this.
From what I've read elsewhere - I've definitely read about people in your exact situation (very recent LEEP) who went onto have no problems at all.
BTW, I'm sure your doc will discuss the appropriate strategy for you, but remember that each person is different and it is very likely you will be fine. Your doc will probably suggest more frequent scans to monitor the length of your cervix. Another option that may be discussed is a therapeutic/preventative cerclage, a stich to hold your cervix closed.
Finally, the other thing my doc mentioned is that during labor and delivery, some previous LEEP patients stall progress dialating due to scar tissue - but then the cervix goes suddenly once the tissue breaks.
Either way, I hope you have a very healthy (and uneventful) pregancy
Please post what your doc says about your situation, as I'm very interested in this topic myself!
Also, any other ladies out there with prior LEEPs that would be willing to share their experiences during pregnancy?? What did your doc recommend, and did you have any issues??
