My daughter started having irregular menstural cycles and later developed a milk like discharge from her nipples. She is not nursing and does not have children. She decided to visit her doctor and he reports unusually high levels of prolactin. He has suggested a cat scan and told her that this could appear when a patient might be a victim to a brain tumor. I think very strong words coming from a doctor - certainly when he does not have all the answers. Could you please give us your advise. We will certainly get more than one opinion, but until her cat scan on 1/22, I would like to hear your advise.

i am 20...iv'e been having discharge like that from only one of my breasts for about a year now...and like your daughter i am not pregnant nor do i have kids...i haven't got it looked at because well i really dont have time and i dont feel any different and nothing is abnormal
i really dont think it is anything to be concerned with...i also heard that it could be an infection because i took antibiotics for bronchitis and the discharge went away for a little

A Prolactinoma is a benign (non-cancerous) tumor of the pituitary gland that causes high prolactin levels. It usually can be treated with medication, rarely if the tumor is very large it will need to be removed surgically. A highly skilled neurosurgeon is required for this surgery. Most prolactinomas are small and don't require surgery - if fact, doctors estimate that up to 25% of us have a small prolactinoma that doesn't cause symptoms so we don't even know we have it.
