Re: Is it dangerous to do nothing with a ruptured simple ovarian cyst?
Most often the body will absorb the fluid from a ruptured ovarian cyst and your body will return to normal. However, you should keep an eye out for symptoms such as a fever, the shakes and other such symptoms that may signal an infection. If these occur, a visit to the doctor or even to emergency, in very rare situations, is warranted. Most ruptured ovarian cysts will resolve on their own though.
Also if the pain does not subside with time or gets worse go to the emergency room right away as what may appear to be a ruptured cyst may actually be a torsion of the ovary caused by the cyst (depending upon the size of the cyst). This is very serious and requires surgery in order to save the ovary (the torsion cuts off the blood supply to the ovary and may eventually result in death of the organ). Always use your best judgement when deciding when to get help and if in doubt, get help right away (let someone with experience decide).
Hope this helps.
