Re: what does free fluid in pelvis mean ?

Tinasjeep, unfortunately I don't know, but I would love if someone else does! I have had pelvic pain (lower right) since November which I have attributed to a cyst. Had a transvaginal ultrasound in November which didn't show a cyst, but did show free standing fluid in my pelvic area/abdomen, which my doc said was evidence of a ruptured cyst and that the fluid would just reabsorb into my body.

Unfortunately 3 months later and I still have pain, as well as currently being on day 17 of my period when it never lasts longer than 5-6 days!

Re: what does free fluid in pelvis mean ?

I was hoping someone would tell us what it means, too. I'm trying to learn more about ovarian problems.

I know that if/when a cyst reptures free fluid results. I know it usually absorbs, but I don't know if it always absorbs or not. I wish I could be of more help, Tinasjeep.

Re: what does free fluid in pelvis mean ?

I was hoping for an answer too!! I just read my MRI report, and it notes "small amount of free fluid w/in the pelvis." But my docs all said that my MRI was normal and didn't show any problems, so at least in my case I'm assuming that it's not a big deal.
