Re: When do ovarian cyst tend to 'grow'

Hi Sarah,

Ovarian follicles begin growing at the start of your period and grow to their maximum by the time you ovulate. After ovulation they start to regress back into the ovary except for the follicle that burst open to release the egg. This cyst becomes the corpus luteum and can sometimes fill with fluid for a time. This too eventually regresses.

I hope this helps.

Pauline

Re: When do ovarian cyst tend to 'grow'

Oof, that's a bit more complex as complex cysts need to be examined to see if they are functional or not. Most simple cysts are functional (although some aren't) but complex cysts can be something other than functional like dermoids, endometriomas or hemorrhagic cysts (these are simply cysts that bleed into themselves). Usually a radiologist can give an educated guess as to what type of cyst you have by the way it looks on the ultrasound.

Hope this helps.

Oh my goodness, I just noticed my unintentional pun in my last message .. ie. " that's a bit more complex" ... my apologies ...
