Not sure whether to make a fuss??

Hi everyone.
I'm quite worried at the moment. Basically for the past 6 or 7 months i have been having constant abdominal pain, it is usually quite mild but on occassions gets so bad i can't even walk. The pain is all over my abdomen, groin and lower back. 3 weeks ago the pain got very severe and i ended up in hospital. I have been going back and forth to the drs since the pain started and they have given me antibiotics on 4 occassions as they presume its an infection. When i was in hospital i was given IV antibiotics aswell as oral. I was also on diclofenic, codeine phosphate and paracetamol which only took the edge off the pain so they had to give me morphine injections in the end. They took swabs presuming it was an infection and they came back clear, like every other swab has and yet they discharged me with a weeks worth of antibiotics and some painkillers. The pain isn't as bad but wont seem to go away. I am worried as they dont seem to have done anything to find out what is wrong.
I bleed in between periods and occassionally after intercourse. The pain also sometimes moves into my legs, like a shooting pain.
I know i'm probably over thinking things but when my mum was 23 she was diagnosed with cervical cancer, my mums nan died from it aswell as her cousin. My dad and grandad both died from cancer and my nan has just been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer that has spread to the liver.
When i told my doctor my family history she said that it was irrelevant.
I have asked for a smear test but they have refused as i am only 21.
Does anyone think i should push my doctors to do a few tests or am i worrying about nothing??
I really don't know what to do, i just know that pain like this isn't normal!

Re: Not sure whether to make a fuss??

the only person that can give you answers right now is a gynecologist who you really need to see. the pain you are experiencing is not normal. what type of infection did they say you have when they put you on antibiotics? pain during sexual intercourse is not normal. bleeding between periods is not normal. you should have a pap smear, it doesn't matter your age, every woman young or old especially sexually active should have a pap test. insist on the pap test, it is important.
please find yourself a good gynecologist and get yourself some answers.
what do you mean fuss? this is your body, your health we're talking about,
if you don't make a fuss than who will?

Re: Not sure whether to make a fuss??

They haven't found any infection! They took swabs for infection which came back negative and i never had any fever. This is what i kept saying to the doctors when i was in hospital. They have no evidence that it is an infection and yet they dont seem to be doing anything else. I have polycystic ovaries, which i have had all my life, they also say that this is not the problem. I'm considering going private for a smear test as the labs wont do the test on the NHS when they find out i'm under 25. It's ridiculous. I'm not saying it is cancer, i'm praying it's not but the worry is always in the back of my mind. I am so frustrated. The doctors are more worried about the cost of tests rather than what is worng with me.
Thank you for your reply though, at least i know i'm not worrying about nothing!

Re: Not sure whether to make a fuss??

Oh my god Kayleigh you have described the EXACT same symptoms that I have! Especially the shooting pains in the legs which I am always assured is due to a bad back but I am not so sure as it throbs and aches with my pelvic pain.

I have had three children and one was a c section so I have scar adhesions which may be the cause of the pain. Have you ever had any pelvic surgery? Do you have children? It also could be endometriosis - I know a few people who have had terrible pelvic pain with that.

I would say defo go to the GP again, try to see a different doctor - preferably a man as in my expeerience they are more sympathetic than women about 'women's' probs. Lay it on thick, cry etc and get yourself a referral! You need to get referred to the gynae clinic at your local hospital asap! Not being alarmist but you have every right to get this checked out properly and you should not be expected to just put up with chronic pain!

Good luck x x x
