Vaginal Prolapse Question

Has anyone out there had a vaginal prolapse and one of the symptoms was smelly gas or at least gas and a lot of it?

Thank you,

Re: Vaginal Prolapse Question

Hello,

I have just had surgery for a prolapse and funny you should mention the gas thing but yes, I have had the same problem. I had to have anterior and posterior repair. What type/grade prolapse do you have? All the best x x x

Re: Vaginal Prolapse Question

I thought I had a vaginal prolapse a few weeks ago but it turned out I had a rectocele and a cystocele which will be surgically repaired. Besides problems going to the bathroom and a feeling of fullness and some discomfort, I did pass a lot of gas. You ought to have your gynecologist examine you.

Love,

Martha

Re: Vaginal Prolapse Question

Thank you for your helpful post, Martha. Can you tell me if you were also having imcomplete evacuations of stool when going to the bathroom? I have an appt with a gyno/uro specialist this Thursday (I had to wait three months to get into her) I am expecting my period any day. I am hoping it doesn't come b4 Thurday.

Thanks,
Emily42

Re: Vaginal Prolapse Question

Yes, I was going to the bathroom more frequently and never had the feeling I was completely emptying the bowel.

Go even if you have your period, they are used to that.

Good luck!

Love,

Martha

Re: Vaginal Prolapse Question

Hi Martha,

Not to beat a dead horse, but did you just have a "feeling" of incomplete bm or were they "actually" incomplete? I have never in my life had this except for the last year, but when I go it is "never" complete. For some reason I have fully formed stool AND now during this past year have started to also have small pieces of stool produced. Those small pieces I cannot get out in a normal bm. I have to do between 1 -3 warm water enemas a day, otherwise I have aggravating and usually smelly gas. Sorry to be so graphic, but I am just trying to figure out if this could be caused by vaginal prolapse. I know that it will ultimately be figured out by the doctor. But, I am so worried that I will not be able to fixed. Sometimes I feel like I am having a panic attack (never had them before either). I feel like I am dying a slow death and there are people around me that are concerned, but nobody can really do anything to help me.

Thank you,
Emily42

Re: Vaginal Prolapse Question

I have been 'going' 4 or 5 times a day in small amounts. Never feels quite empty. Very painful, causing blood.

I was in a near panic when this started, and when I finally got to the gynecologist I didn't know what to think - I was sure it was a prolapse, an emergency, and I might need immediate surgery. The doctor was wonderful. I felt completely reassured and in good hands. Yes, I do need an operation, and yes, is is a kind of prolapse -- but I don't need a hysterectomy. I will get the walls of the vagina repaired, made tighter, so that the bulge coming from the rectum (rectocele) goes back where it belongs. BMs will then be normal and easier, and I expect after healing not to have this problem again. At the same time she will repair a small ''cystocele" which is a bulge coming from the bladder into the vagina. This never really caused me any symptoms, but if she's in there already, she may as well tighten that area too.

I was told that some people put two fingers into the vagina while moving the bowel to push the rectocele our of the way and let the BM come out normally. I have not tried it, but am using stool softeners to make it so narrow that it (mostly) comes out easier, until the operation. I am also on a strict anti constipation diet, mainly fruit and vegetables and whole wheat bread. No red meat, no sugar, little starch, no candy or chocolate or white foods like potatoes, pancakes, bananas for some reason ... this is helping too. I also take 2 fiber tablets a day.

these are temporaty measures until the operation.

Hope this helps. I can only emphasize the need to get a doctor to examine you! Once you know what it is, you can get the right treatment, and the fear is way less.

love,

Martha

Re: Vaginal Prolapse Question

Hi Martha,

Thanks for your posts, they are so helpful. I go to the doctor Thursday. One other question in the meantime. Do they do this surgery vaginally or thru the abdomen?

Thanks so much!

Emily42

P.S. Not to be gory, but was your 11lb birth delivered vaginally? I have felt sorry for myself delivering an 9lb 11oz baby vaginally. I can't even fathom 11lbs

Re: Vaginal Prolapse Question

Dear Emily,

The surgery is vaginal. MY doctor said when I wake up I will feel like I had an episiotomy.

My 3 kids were all delivered vaginally, 8 lbs 12 oz, 8 lbs 8 oz, and 11 lbs. The first two needed forceps. This was so long ago -- nowadays a C section woud have been done for the first one instead of the brutal forceps method. I had a lot of rips and tears. I think this problem is old scar tissue just giving out.

My third 'baby' just got married!!

Love and good luck!

Martha
