| Re: ruptured ovarian cyst when should i go to er
Hello,
How do you know it is a ruptured ovarian cyst ? Have you had one rupture before ? Do you know for sure that you have a large cyst sitting on your ovary ? If not, and you are in a lot of pain, go to the ER immediately. What you think is a ruptured cyst may actually be a ruptured appendix and this is much more serious.
Cyst ruptures usually heal on their own, although if you experience a fever and chills this may signal an infection and you must get to the hospital as soon as possible. These are rare, however, and most ruptured cysts will heal within the week. Keep in mind that cysts can also torse the ovary which causes excruciating pain as the torsion cuts off the blood supply to your ovary and the ovarian tissue necrotizes (dies).
If you are in a lot of pain, and it is not going away or getting better, go to the ER immediately. Tell them you suspect it is an ovarian cyst but are not sure and they will take it from there by doing an ultrasound and finding out exactly what is going on.
Good luck and all the best.
