Anyone else have strange "colored" periods in their late teens?

My daughter, who just turned 17, has her period again after just finishing it 1 1/2 weeks ago! she is not sexually active and recently came off the pill a month or so ago (yes she is 100% not sexually active and is NOT pregnant!) this is a bit odd for her...she says it isn't like a normal period. Although heavy she said it is very dark like a brown color compared to red (sorry for tmi) is this strange in a girl her age or simply could be due to her pill regime changing?

The sloughing off of the lining/cells of the uterus is what the 'period' is and there is very little blood involved and should always be more dark brown all the time. If it is every more bright red then there is a problem.

Just sounds like the old blood being cleared out after having been on the pill.

The same thing happened to me when I got off the pill. Once its all fully ouf of her system her cycle will go back to being normal.

I've always had the dark brown at the end of my periods and the beginning. I do have a friend who has her period for 3 days (lucky winch) and she said it's a dark brown color. So it's like her period never really gets a start and just ends. It sounds normal to me. I mean yeah after a week an a half that's really fast, but getting off the pill changes things. Also her period could be trying to make a new schedule due to the change. My period is every 3 weeks and I've heard of others with less. I woudn't worry too much about it unless she has a third one within the next 2 wks of finishing that one.
