pain after colposcopy is unbearable

I just got home from having a colposcopy/biopsy. The gyno advised me to take Tylenol beforehand, which I did, because she said it would be "uncomfortable." I talked to several women beforehand who'd had colposcopies and they all said there was a little pinching pain, but it didn't last long and it wouldn't be bad.

So...I had to call in sick to work today because it hurts so bad to even move my body. It's excruciating to walk, it's incredibly painful just to be sitting, and I almost start crying from the pain every few minutes or so. It's horrible.

What can I do to ease the pain? Besides taking Tylenol (which doesn't seem to be helping)? Every time I have to stand up I start to panic because it hurts so bad to do so. This is so awful!

Re: pain after colposcopy is unbearable

Pinkrobot, I'm so sorry you are going through this. I, too, do not tolerate colposcopy well. The "slight cramping" they warned of after my procedure felt like afterpains from childbirth. It was awful. I also felt sore throughout my back and torso. Then add in the horrific discharge...

I found the most relief from taking Motrin 800 mg at a time, because Tylenol does virtually nothing for me. I also went to my chiropractor and had an adjustment two days later. I believe the positioning in the stirrups plus my horrible stress and tension during the procedure caused me to be so sore, but I just couldn't relax. I'd also call your doctor and report what you are going through.

I never want a colposcopy again, that is for sure. I hope you feel better soon and please update us with your progress.
