Cyst in Uterus

During an ultrasound on Friday the technician saw a cyst in my uterus. At first she questioned if I could possibly be pregnant, after replying no, she checked and confirmed there was not a heartbeat and said it was a cyst. I could see it on the ultrasound screen and it appeared to be a good size. She of course will report her findings to my doctor but in the mean time I am curious. I have googled "cyst in uterus", but I am not having much luck in finding any information. Does anyone have any information about a cyst in the uterus. Not a cyst on/in ovaries, cervix, or other areas, but specifically with a cyst in the uterus. I did find articles on "polyps" in the uterus, but she specifically said cyst and from the looks of it, I would not consider the size of it to be a polyp, it was too large (but I do not know this, I am only assuming). The ultrasound was being performed for other reasons, this was just a discovery as a result. More info: Age 43, in general good health. Thanks in advance for any information you might have.

Re: Cyst in Uterus

You can't listen to what the technicians tell you as being right. They're technically not supposed to say anything, just do the test and print the results for the doctor to interpret.

To my knowledge, there's no such thing as a cyst in the uterus. It's either a polyp or a fibroid. You can have cysts on your ovaries, that's very common, but not inside the uterus. I'm sure it's either a polyp or a fibroid. Of the two, a polyp would be the easier one to remove through a simple surgery. Fibroids are much harder to remove because they grow into the surrounding tissue, making it much harder to get at it that easily. Either one is usually benign unless you're post-menopausal and over 50.

Re: Cyst in Uterus

Thank you for your reply. I will wait until I hear back from the doctor to see what he says. I am sure he will refer me to my OB/GYN. I do not think the technician was meaning to give me details, I think it took her off guard. She was doing the ultrasound for something completely different and I think she really thought at first it was a baby. So when she was questioning me about being pregnant, and was I sure I wasn't pregnant, listening for a heartbeat, and I could visibly see there was something there on the monitor, I am glad she at least told me something and did not leave me wondering. Even though I can not find any information on what she said it was, I know that cysts are very common, I have them all the time on my ovaries, so therefore I am not overly worried. Just curious. Now if she had not told me anything and just left me hanging, I would be extremely worried and scared. So I am glad she did say something.
