I have had many cultures done and everything came negative. Some of them were cultured for 30 to 40 days. However my last culture came positive for Glabrata after 3 days only!!! I was prescribed nystatin and ampicilin ovules- refrigerated - for 7 days. I always thought that Ampicilin is an antibiotic which can cause yeast growth. Why the doctor would prescribe this? Anybody here cured glabrata? And what are the symptoms for glabrata?

Glabrata is one of the Candida yeasts - about ten variant organisms- that affect people with compromised immune systems. You probably belong in that category. Can it be cured? I doubt if even your doctor has a straight answer because it is rare, and doctors don't have enough experience with rare diseases.

Thanks. Anyway my doctor said that it is a common infection in women and that it can be cured. However reading some posts here and other sites, it doesn't look like it is easily cured. No, I am not imuno compromised. As a matter of fact, I had a lot of lab test done recently and everything was within limits. I am more interested in women oppionion, especially those who have had dealt with this infection.
