"Normal" nipple/breast discharge?

At the risk of sound TOTALLY ignorant even after doing some online research and speaking to my GP... How "normal" is it for a woman with a normal pituitary to experience breast/nipple discharge?

I've had this discharge on and off (most recently on) for years. I only have one child who was born 2 years ago and I weaned him from my breast about 18 months ago. The discharge I have only happens when either breast is manipulated and it's never painful but it's milky in color and consistency.

Thanks in advance!
