i am quite anxious to know about breast cancer.Recently i met 1 of my frd who is just 18 and she said she is having breast cancer.the tumour growth started 2 yrs back and it was detected recently.i was shocked.i thought breast cancer is such a disease found mostly in middle aged women.can any1 tell me d causes,treatment and effects of breast cancer in young women??
WEll, cause, treatment etc depend on the type of cancer the woman has (there are several different kinds- there isn't jump one "breast cancer"). However, to answer your original question, yes, women of this age can have breast cancer. I personally know of two who had it while they were college age.
Well, some are genetic. One of my friends had the BRCA1 gene. Another didn't and had DCIS. As I said, there are different kinds of breast cancer - in other words, they are genetically different and come from different causes. SO, you'd have to know the exact kind and then you can determine what the most likely cause might be. The causes for all are not known at this time though it is thought that diet and exposure to certain carcinogens are the main causes.
