Hi

I am new to the message board and looking for some advice/support. I have had unusual bleeding for many years. It started as spotting between periods and has now increased to a darkish brown period that occurs before a more normal red period. All in all it lasts 2 weeks. I do have fibroids but they do not seem to be large. Six years ago I had a sonohystogram and biopsy and nothing appeared to be of concern.

I went for my routine yearly exam last week and bled during my pap smear. My doctor has now referred me for a colposcopy. In the meantime I am very very worried about what bleeding from my cervix could mean. Does anyone have any advice or information?

As I understand it, bleeding during a pap can indicate swelling and/or irritation of the cervix. I would say a colposcopy is a prudent idea. It will take a closer look at the cervix and see what is going on. If you are over 30, then I'd like to suggest that you ask your doctor about performing an ECC at the same time.

Have you scheduled your colpo yet?

Thanks so much for your reply. I am having the colpo on Thursday but am not sure if she will do a biopsy - all she said was she was going to look with a mircroscope. I somehow thought she was going to look at the tissue sample but now I understand she will be looking at my cervix. I am concerned about how I will tolerate this procedure. Pap smears are quite painful for me - and I previously had a uterine biopsy about 6 years ago. Wow - that was out of this world painful. I couldn't hold on for her to take more than one sample. She has also referred me to another specialist but to be honest my brain was not able to process all the possible tests, procedures. I am so anxious I am having trouble eating. My problems have been going on so long I am really scared that its a cancer that has been missed all these years.

I had my colposcopy today. She saw nothing abnormal and said there was nothing to biopsy. I am relieved but still worry about why my cervix is now bleeding and why I have such strange menstrual bleeding (5 days of dark brown bleeding then 5 of normal red blood, then one week of nothing then it repeats again....)

She has referred me to another specialist who will take a further look and check out my uterus. Think I won't stop worrying until I have an answer (hopefully a good one)

Hi, I always bleed during pap smears, and recently had an abnormal pap, and had to have a colposcopy. I barely made it through the biopsy as I found it so painful, and luckily the biopsy that she took came back normal. I am wondering if some thing must still be wrong, as I have to follow-up. I couldn't even tolerate the ECC - I actually freaked out on the table... Arghhh. Has any one else had this happen?
