I had similar problem...my periods were going very light from regular 4 days to hardly 3 days (spots on first day, little blood on 2nd & again spots on 3rd day and then vanish).
So I decided to go to the ob/gyn for pap smear and she said it is very normal to be like that and we consider it alarming if there is heavy bleeding (soaking 2 or more pads in an hour). And my pap smear report came out to be absolutely normal.
