Good afternoon. I posted here a week or so ago about a lot of pain and abnormal bleeding I was having. I went to my Dr today and was told that I have functional cysts on both ovaries. She thinks they will go away on their own and has scheduled me to have another ultrasound in 2 weeks. this made me feel at least a little better about what was going on.
The thing I am worried about now is the pap smear results. I have a long history of abnormal results..have had 2 colpos and a leep. My dr. said that the pap smear came back abnormal but was negative for HPV test they did. I always assumed that the issues I had before were caused by HPV, though no one ever *told* me that’s what it was. I am supposed to wait 6 months and have another pap.
What could cause all the problems other than HPV? I was told before that it was pre-cancer and have not really had in follow ups or anything for at least 4 years. Is it possible that its the pre-cancer progressed even though its not hpv? Any help is greatly appreciated.
While HPV can cause cancer, it is not the only cause. So, yes, it's possible to not have HPV and have abnormal paps. I've had several abnormal paps but HPV was not the cause (usually sex the night before or a bubble bath because I forgot about the exam coming the next day!)
Just wanted to wish you good luck on your follow-up. I had an abnormal pap last year and was tested twice for HPV, both negative. I had cryosurgery and have paps eevry three months. Always a waiting game! Hang in there!
