Yaz vs. Ortho Novum 1/35

I am needing to switch birth control pills. I was on Microgestin and it made me have TERRIBLE mood swings. I felt crazy! The doctor believes I do have PMDD, and due to me not having insurance, has recommended Ortho Novum 1/35. However, after reading the side effects of extreme mood swings and weight gain, I am getting leary about filling this prescription. I already have PMDD, so I don't want something that will make it worse! We also discussed Yaz, but didn't go that route due to the high cost at the pharmacy. Does Yaz really work? Is it worth paying around $50 a month or is Ortho Novum a great substitute? Any advice is gladly welcomed! Thanks!
