Are regular periods necessary?
Are they important for anything other than having children?

Mine has been irregular lately... Pap was negative, ultrasound was negative.

Is there a need to pursue this?

If you are otherwise healthy, irregular periods in and of themselves are not considered a major issue. I was irregular from age 12 to age 25, then suddenly and mysteriously became regular!

I wouldn't worry.
