In May I started itching. Thought that I had a yeast infection so I went to the GYN. Negative. He started me on Clobetasol for inflammation. It got worse. He tried a dose pack and it did not help. He basically said that he could not help me. I went to a dermatologist who suggested that I get a biopsy. Went back to the GYN and got two biopsies. These were sent to two different places and I am negative for LS. The burning continued day and night like a sunburn. The itching decreased. I had to cancel my vacation to the Lake and had to come back from Hilton Head early. I was in misery there calling my dermotologist at 8 PM crying and he would try different creams. Finally I went to a differnet dermatologist who suggested a lighter weight hydrocortisone. It burned. The burning continued. Ice packs at work. NO sex for over two months now, and no pants for over two months. It has been horrific! My kids suffer as I don't go anywhere and I am irritable. I lay around with ice packs. Sometimes, I have to leave work early and everyone asks why. I can't say to them my vulva burns! I went back to the dermotologist today and she said that since the hydrocortisone creams don't work I must have vulvodynia. She started me on Neurontin. I stoped all creams and now just wash with Dove for sesitive skin, wash off my urine and apply GoldBond Powder. It seems to help keeping it dry. I finally got my hormones drawn and my GYN said that they are "out of whack" and prescribed Premarin cream. I put that on and by the end of the day it burned so bad I just sat in my car and bawled. I finally just drove to the ER. My B/P was 158/98 and I was in serious pain. They gave me pain meds and monistat powder and got me in to see another Gynecologist for tomorrow. The dermatologist said "Thiss is not caused by hormones--you are too young" I am 46. I have been in constant pain (except for 2 days) for over two months. It doesn't hurt so much around the vagina just the labia. It burns like a sunburn that has been rubbed with hot water (when I walk). Around the vagina-it itches.
Questions:
1)has anyone found that Neurontin helps? He also started me on Elavil. The doctor told me that Neurontin takes 2-4 weeks to work.
2) Does this stuff come and go or will I have this every day at this level of pain for the rest of my life? I am 46. Does it go away completely at times? I would love to hear this!
3)What tests should I have done? I have Hashimotos. Has anyone had any help with Neurontin?
4) It seems the less I put on it, the better it is. Just Gold Bond powder and it got down to slight yeast infection level which is a little better than before.
5) Is Estrace better than Premarin cream. the Premarin burned!!
Anyway, I know that this is long but it is my first post and I am just getting really depressed. I feel horrible for cutting our vacation short etc. and that I have been short with my kids but I just hurt so so bad. Any thoughts?
