Hormonal Problems

I'm female age 38. This past year i've noticed some changes to my body such as weight gain and hair growth in unusual places and mood swings/depression. Could this be my hormones out of balance or is this just normal with the aging process. I want to get my hormones tested and would also like to know what kind of doctor I need to see for this. I don't want just a normal blood test...Since my regular doctor says everything is fine. I just can't believe this and want a more in depth test done. I've heard that for the most accurate results...it should be done at a certain time in my cycle. Does anyone know anything about this?..Any info would be so appreciated.

Re: Hormonal Problems

This could be a hormonal imbalance or it may just be the beginnings of menopause. You will need to see an endocrinologist for hormone testing. He will run blood tests and/or salivary tests, which are often a better indicator of hormonal imbalances, IMO. Have you started any new medications lately, or for that matter, stopped any? Diseases which often present such symptoms as abnormal hair loss/growth, weight gain, acne, depression, etc. are polycystic ovarian syndrome, Cushing's Disease, thyroid problems, etc. There are so many that have similar symptoms that it is impossible to guess the cause of your problems without knowing your blood read-up. If you feel your doctor is missing something, please do see an endocrinologist.
