Hello everyone, I am 18 years old and I have been experiencing irregular periods every since I first got my period at 13. For about three months my period will come around the same time (say maybe the 15th of each month) then it will change to the 25th of each month for a little while, and then change again!!! Should I see a doctor? Is this something normal? Is it a condition? Please help in anyway you can. Thanks
[This message has been edited by ladykimm00 (edited 02-22-2002).]
I also used to have very irregular periods, even once going for over 3 months without having my period. The doctor could find nothing wrong with me and put it all down to stress, which was true as I was in a difficult relationship at the time.
The doctor told me that stress, changes in weight, and meds can all mess with your cycle.
My period has been regular as clock-work for 3 years now. I would suggest making an appointment with your doctor for a check-up/consoltation. If anything, he would give some peace of mind and advice.
Take care and let us know how everything goes!
You can check in with the doctor but if it just varies as to how many days between cycles this is pretty much normal. So long as you get your period every month you are fine. I was always irregular and had long cycles. I would vary anywhere from about 32 days to 36 days between my cycles. The only problem of course is that you are never sure exactly when you period will come so you need to take keep your protection with you at all times. If it bothers you being irregular like this you can consider birth control pills to regulate your cycle.
Yes, it's completely normal. I had irregular periods too, and it was really frustrating... I'd never know when I would get them. I'd skip a few months, and even if I had it for 3 consistent months, it was always a random number of days between them.
Just like someone else said, stress, diet, meds... They all affect your period.
The only thing I'd worry about is that you are 18, and, by then, they should be a little more regular... But I don't think it's a big deal, so don't worry.
But, I would go to the gynecologist anyway, just to get checked out. You're 18, which is the perfect age to go. Ask her about going on the pill.. It helped me a lot. And cleared my skin, and gives me birth control, and gives me lighter and consistent periods.
