My girlfriend is bleeding but not from her period!!!!

Last week my girlfriend came over. She was complaining that she had just started her period again but she said it was weird because she had just ended her period a week and a half before. She claimed that it was safe to have sex since she was really light that particular night. We proceeded to have sex only the last week she has been bleeding but not from her period she claims. It has now been a week and she is having to wear a tampon for the bleeding. She also mentioned the blood that has been discharged has been brownish which she is VERY scared about. She is only 17 and this is only our 4th time having sex, what could be the problem?

Could she be pregnant? It is very possible to bleed when pregnant without miscarrying. She needs to go to the doctor and have this checked out. It is probably nothing serious, but put both of your minds to rest and find out. Take Care, Janet

Re: My girlfriend is bleeding but not from her period!!!!

I have the same problem. It's been going on for about a year now. I'm in the process of getting my results now. First off, she should go for a pap test to make sure she has no STD. The pap also check for signs of cancer. The bleeding might be from her uterus and therefore her pap may come out normal. If it does come out normal, she should be refered to a specialist for a deeper investigation. They'll take a uteral biopsy and see what's causing her bleeding. The brownish stuff is just old blood. The worst case, is that it could be cancer, but the most likely posibility as they told me, is that from all the years of having my period, I may need a DNC to just clean me out and stop the shedding of the old blood. I'm not quite sure if this makes any sense, or if the information I've given you is correct, so please just have her see a doctor. If anyone can correct me, please do so. I'm quite curious myself to see if I have the correct info.

Maybe her cervix is too low.
Get it checked out!

Re: My girlfriend is bleeding but not from her period!!!!

Another thing... Just because your gf is having her period doesn't mean it is safe to have sex and not get pregnant. In a perfect world, when everyone has a 'normal' cycle you could only get pregant at the 'peak' of the cycle, but most women are NOT normal. Everyone has their own cycle.

Now that she is sexually active she should be seeing a gynocologist every year until she is stable (like married or with a guy for several years). Just be careful, you guys are young, I am sure this was a false alarm, but why go through the stress of a false alarm. USE A CONDOM...
