Missed periods but not pregnant

A couple months ago I went to my gyn because my period lasted two weeks. I've always been very regular so I was quite worried. She did a regular annual exam and did not find anything wrong. She said the long period was probably just a fluke. However, since then I have missed two periods. I called my doc and she scheduled me to come in next Wed (July 3). I've taken two pregnancy tests and both have come back negative. Anyone have any idea what might be going on? Also, the nurse said something about possibly inducing my period. How do they do that? By the way, I'm 24, healthy, and not taking any medications.

Re: Missed periods but not pregnant

One of the ways I know of that they can induce a period is by giving a subcutaneous shot of progesterone. This will 'start' a period. I went for 5 months without one two years ago, and my gyno wouldn't give me the shot, because he said it's best to let nature take its' course. I was worried, though, because not having a period for so long means that your uterine lining is building up to be quite think, and can lead to all sorts of fun stuff, like infections. But thatnkfully, it eventually started! Good luck!!

Re: Missed periods but not pregnant

Hi, I also was having missed peroids, since I never had any weird side effects from not starting I just figured my body needed a little help, so started looking into herbs that are good for suppressed menstruation and have found that don quai, black cohosh and blue cohosh are a few of good ones. Those herbs would help me to have a period once or twice and then I would stop again. So I started looking more into it again and found out that it was my hormones doing some wacky thing and I came across the herb vitex (chaste-berry) and it normalized my hormones and is making me start faithfully now, thank goodness. I'm 24 too, and not married so there's no way I could have been pregnant, I guess my hormones are just going through some change. By the way as with all herbs, there are many good helpful ones but always be sure to look up info about them an stuff cause some can be harmful if mixed with certain other medicines. Ok, sorry if this is long...
