yeast infection that won't go away. any suggestions?

hey guys,

i tested positive for a yeast infection on nov. 3, i was given fluconazole. it didnt work. then i was given 2 more, and was told to take them 3 days apart. It didnt work again. However, it did improve my symptoms but not fully clear them up. I have used this medication before with no problems clearing up the yeast. Please bear with me, i have about a million questions and will be greatly appreciative if you can help me.

1. My boyfriend and i are in a long distance relationship, and we had sex only 3 days after my first round of fluconazole. (we had a very limited amount of time together) Could that have caused the first round of med. to not cure me?

2. My doctor said something about it being a resistant strain, but would it make me feel better (at least a little) if it was really resistant? or could it just be really stubborn?

3. Im allergic to miconazole. I got impatient during the second round of meds and use clotrimazole for one night. It made my symptoms 10x worse. could that have caused the second round of meds not to work and cure me?

4. Because of the bad experiences with the creams, i am very hesistant to use any type of medication that comes in form of vaginal cream. are there are any other oral medications, esp. ones that are stronger and/or treat different strains of yeast?

5. Can anyone tell me how sporanox or boric acid worked for them for a yeast infection, if you can even use it for that? Or if anyone had to use fluconazole for a longer time until it worked?

I have had my blood tested for any underlying conditions that may cause my yeast infections(including HIV and diabetes), but they all came back negative. I am seeing my doctor again later this week and i plan on asking her the same questions, but i just wanted to get some other insight. Please and Thank You!!!!

Try using diluted povidone iodine dolution (Betadine) - cheaply avaliable in any pharmacy.

You mix 20ml into 1 cup of warm water and douch with it, twice a day for a few days, then once a day for a week or so. Get your BF to swab the head of his penis with the diluted solution as well.

Povidone iodine will coquer resistant strains, and it is non irritating.

best of luck.

Has your boyfriend been treated as well? You can pass it back and forth.

thanks for the suggestions! my doctor perscribed me terazol 3. i will take my first does tonight. im praying that it works. has anyone had any experience with this medication?

Titchou: my boyfriend is tresting himself, just started tonight. however, i don't believe that is the problem. i developed my symptoms about 2 weeks before he came to visit me(i hadnt seen him or been intimate with him in 2 months) and my symptoms have persisted for the 2 weeks since he left. but, he's still doing the treatment anyways. thanks!

Are you 100% sure its a yeast infection? How long have you been having symptoms? I thought I had what was a reoccuring yeast infection (almost 6 years) although I never had a "positive" test...I was treated for yeast over and over again...turned out to be a condition called VIN.

What were your symptoms, if you don't mind answering? I've been seeing doctors for almost 3 years for discharge and irritation, and they found in a biopsy that I do have VIN--yet, they claim it doesn't cause symptoms and they won't do any of the procedures that "get rid" of it because they say it'll just make it worse. I have my doubts, and I'm convinced the VIN is connected with my symptoms.

Re: yeast infection that won't go away. any suggestions?

My only symptom was vulva itching that came and went all the time...it could be there at night and gone all day or itchy in the morn and then gone all day. It seemed worse after intercourse too. I saw many drs and none diagnosed me until July. I saw a gyno who did a vinegar type wash, saw the area turned a whitish color and then sent me for a biopsy. I have stage one and 2. I think sometimes if you have stage 1 I have heard they will take a wait and see if it goes on its own approach...and depending on how much you have...I have alot of it.

I would find out what stage of VIN you have and even get a second opinion. What procedures are they talking about? I am using aldera cream right now and I go back again for my second follow up...if its not gone I am being sent to see another specialist to have it lasered out.

Re: yeast infection that won't go away. any suggestions?

I've already had a 2nd (and 3rd, even) opinion and they all think there's nothing that can be done. I was on aldera for a month and it gave me such bad chemical burns that I couldn't stay on it (not to mention it did not even slightly change my symptoms). All of these doctors have contemplated the laser surgery but in the end, they all think it'll make it worse so they throw it out of the picture completely.

Anyway, sorry to the OP for going off topic a little. =/ I also wonder if it's actually a yeast infection--when the doctor does the wet mounts, have they specifically told you there's a lot of yeast? Have they done an actual culture, and tests for STDs?

did they tell you what stage you have? And how much area is covered? It could be you were maybe using too much aldera cream...I have heard that a little goes a long way. You should do some online research and then take it to the drs and ask them why they say to do nothing...unless maybe its stage 1 and they are waiting to see if it clears up on its own...have they said to come back for check ups? Did they do a biopsy on your vulva?

Re: yeast infection that won't go away. any suggestions?

It's stage one, but I've had symptoms for close to 3 years so obviously it's not going to clear up on its own. I used very little aldera cream, just enough for a THIN coat on the area (never a full packet at once).

Re: yeast infection that won't go away. any suggestions?

When did you have a biopsy (I hope it wasnt 3 years ago) from what I have heard and read with stage one sometimes they like to take a wait and see approach. Do you know how much surface area has VIN? I have also heard that the areas that have the VIN are the ones to become sore...I use mine for a few times and if it gets sore I stop for a few days. But I have one area that does get painful...but not so much of an open sore...just very tender.
