First degree prolapse

Hi everyone,
I have had a small degree of prolapse (cervix into vaginal cavity) for a few years now. It has never bothered me until recently when I started getting episodes of urinary frequency. Tests turned up nothing, so I am fairly sure that it is the prolapse that is causing the problem which comes and goes. It can last as long as three weeks when it happens and the urge to urinate is there the entire time. I have made an appointment with my doctor so that I can be refered to a specialist. These are my questions. Is it a gynaecologist or urologist who sees to this problem? Is surgery usually the only option for sexually active (married) women? Thanks in advance.

Re: First degree prolapse

I would see your gyn, I went to a uro and he just referred me to a gyn. I have both a cystocele and a rectocele. From my research the best option is surgery. You can try what's called a pessary but everything I have read says they aren't comfortable and they don't work great. The prolapse will only get worse with time. With a cervical prolapse I am not sure what your options for surgery are though. It might be hysterectomy.
