ovarian cyst

I have a 3.9cm right ovary cyst, simple and functional as they call it, has been there since first diagnosed in October 2010, i finally went off my low dose BC pills April 26th 2011. My body just didnt feel right anymore and after reading extensively about BC pills, it has been said they are not provedn to eliminate or reduce the chance of getting an ovarian cyst. I dont know what to do about my cyst, I am worried that I may need to have it removed or worse never be able to have a child again, I am 35 years old and would like that choice....not sure if this cyst will complicate that fact???? ANyone here with advice? I appreicate it and your time

Re: ovarian cyst

I don't have a lot of experience with those, I just know that with the numerous ultrasounds I've had over the last 5 years, I've had ovarian cysts that have come and gone. I had a couple that ruptured and it hurt but the pain wasn't bad enough to send me to the ER.

I do know that fertile women who ovulate get cysts frequently and that's normal. Only after you stop ovulating do they stop forming.

3.9 sounds kind of big to me, though. If I were you, I would inquire with the doctor whether it needs to be surgically removed or if they think it might go away on its own. Do you know if it has kept increasing in size over the last year or has it stayed about the same? If it keeps getting larger, then surgery might be your best bet to take care of it. Are you having any symptoms from it like pain or spotting or heavy bleeding? Then you should get it removed. But if it's just sitting there and not causing any trouble then perhaps you can just wait it out and see if it goes away on its own.

I don't think it should impact your ability to have a baby. Your other ovary is probably fine, so I don't see how this cyst on one ovary would impact your chances of getting pregnant in the future.

Re: ovarian cyst

Thanks for your repsonse. We shall see what unfolds in the months to come, it has grown about 1cm and it is fluid-filled so thats not too scary.....lets see what happens. Currently waiting for a CT.
