Adenomyosis

Quick history-
I am 34 years old with two children. Had a tubal 9 years ago. About 3 years ago, I was having 2 periods a month for almost a year. At the time, they ran all the usual tests and told me it was just stress (I was getting divorced). About a year ago, everything was normal again. My periods are intense, but only last 4 to 5 days. I can function with a steady supply of Advil. This summer my periods started getting worse, but I started spotting between my cycles, and started having a lot of stomach aches. Last month, my period last 18 days :(....OMG, it was horrible.

Just had a transvaginal ultrasound and they think I have adenomyosis. I am being referred to a specialist.

Reading other woman's post on adenomyosis, I don't have a lot of the symptoms most others do. My abdomen is very flat, and I do not bloat up very much. I have bad cramps with my period, but I am still functional. I don't have pain during intercourse. But I can not continue to have 18 day periods or feel sick to my stomach most of the month. Does anyone else with this condition have a lot of stomachaches or cramping while NOT on their menstral cycle? or is it not related?

I guess what I am asking is, will drugs work? an ablation? or am I looking at a hysterectomy? I am done having kids, but not exciting about a hysterectomy; however, if my symptoms will come back with other alternatives, I would just rather get it done and over with. I would like to go into the appointment with a decent understanding of my condition and choices, before I hear what the doc has to say.

Thank you
