Abnormal Period

Hello everyone. This is my first time posting as well as my first time on the site. Ok, I will get to the point. I'm a 47 yr old female and I have not had a period in six months. Recently (about three weeks ago) I started, what I thought was the beginning of my period--but it wasn't. When I go to the bathroom to urinate and wipe, I see a light red/pinkish blood. It's not a lot...and its started off only when I pee. (Also, its not ongoing sometimes there's nothing there). Then about a two weeks ago, I have been discharging a dark somewhat gritty blood (again, its not even enough to wear a pad..I will put on a pantyliner) and the smell is gross! Can someone please tell me what the heck is going on????? I also think that I'm going through menapause because for the past year or so I suffer from hot/cold, irritable, mood swings. Does the lack of having a period for the last six months as well as the color, etc play a part?

Side note: My mom stopped her period at the age of 35 with no symptoms of menapause (no, hot/cold, mood swings...nothing).

PLEASE HELP ME TRY TO FIGURE THIS OUT.

Re: Abnormal Period

It seems the norm for perimenopause, but you really should get checked out by your gyne or doctor to take samples and make sure nothing else is going on.

The doctor can also do a blood test for FSH..follicle stimulating hormones..to see if you are indeed in perimenopause. It seems obvious, however.

One isn't officially in menopause until periods have stopped for over a year or so.

But...you should get checked out for sure with a pap smear etc.
