Why have I missed so many periods?
I really hope someone can answer my question! I'm on birth control (pills) and I haven't had a period in three months. Around two weeks into each pill set, I will get cramps similar to menstrual cramps, but two weeks later when it's time for my period, it doesn't come. I'm having pretty bad hot flashes (I guess that's what it is, I've always been "colder" than most people, but lately I'm sweaty all of the time and really hot, I also wake up completely drenched in sweat) and I'm very irritable. My breasts have been a little sore for the last week. I just turned 24. I thought maybe I was pregnant, but I've taken multiple home pregnancy tests and they've all been negative. Someone suggested that I'm going through early menopause. I really hope that's not the case, as I'm only 24 and would like kids one day. I wish I had insurance to get checked, but I was laid off due to budget cuts. Please help me!! What's going on down there?
Re: Why have I missed so many periods?
Menopause at such an early age is rare but possible. However, it sounds like your body is just having symptoms due to the birth control. It probably holds your periods back and that explains the cramps but no bleeding. The hotflashes are a part of the birth control and your hormones changing. It's like when a woman gets pregnant, she has hotflashes because her body isn't the same anymore. Our hormones change. I think you're fine but I also think if you're really bothered by the symptoms, talk to your doctor about changing your pills.
