Hi I am 17 years old and I'm kind of scared. I have never had sex of any kind so there is a 0% chance that I a pregnant. It has been maybe 5 months to a year since I had my last period. I started my period in grade 8 and they were fairly regular. As I got older I missed periods for about 2-3 months at a time. Once I did not have my period for at least 5 months. Now its been I think a year since my last period. I haven't felt any pain and i usually dont feel bad or have cramps when i have my period. I haven't talked to anyone about this not even my mom because I'm scared and I think its embarrassing. I really just need some help and info as to what is going on. Is this normal? I'm a bit stressed all the time, could this be affecting my period? Please help.
Non regular periods are not unusual, many girls suffer this and it normally rights itself when you are though your teens.
Anyhow, in your case having missed for a year I think you should see your Dr. I don't think it is anything to worry about too much but there could be some medical reason for this and it would be wise to get a check up.
I wish you well,
I agree that you should get this checked out. This is a long time to go without a period.
Have you had a lot of weight loss or weight gain? That can change the menstrual cycle. If you're overweight, losing some weight can normalize your cycle. Also, extreme exercising or extreme dieting can cause periods to stop.
An endocrine problem is also a possibility - thyroid, pituitary, adrenal.
