Josie,
I know how you feel about how they look and how they can make you feel self-conscious regarding intimacy. I have felt the exact same way. I could put up with the occasional discomfort, but how they make me feel about that most intimate area is why I'm going to do something about it. I don't mind sharing this with you. This is such a safe and anonymous way to share these things with others and not feel so alone, and I'd be willing to bet that there are others out there who are experiencing the same thing.
My surgery is scheduled for next Weds., Oct. 25th. I'm scared to death, but I'm going to do it. I know that it's going to be painful and unpleasant. But I guess I can tolerate that for a week or two, and then it will be all over.
I hope you talk to a doctor, even if it's a male. My GYN is a male, and I have always felt comfortable with him. I think it depends on the doctor and also his staff and the rapport you develop with them. You'll just know if it's the right one. But no matter who you see about it, it probably won't be easy. Just focus on the outcome and grit your teeth and get through it. That's what I'm doing. One week from now, the surgery will be over. A week or two later, and the pain will be resolving and it will be a thing of the past. I can do this....
