: My 7 yr old son has been having "accidents" for as long as I can remember. I can't seem to find a reason for this to be going on. The Dr. says he's doing it for attention, but I give him enough positive attention that negative attention is unnecessary. He if very troubled by these occurrences. They don't happen all the time, but I am getting to my wits end on how to help him.Can anyone out here help me?????
My son has had the same problem - it's been horrible. All i can tell you is to keep your pateince, he'll need it from you! he's not doing this on purpose, and he's probably trying very hard to please you. Please go see a specialist!!! a pediatric gastroenterologist can prescribe medicines that are not very invasive and can help your son to become regular. Your son may be suffering from chronic constipation as mine is.
Make sure he gets alot of fiber in his diet, plenty of water and lots of exercise, as well as sitting on the pot at least 2-3 times per day - try positive reinforcement -
give him stickers each time he has a successful sit, and at the end of the week reward him with a video or book or something like that -
If nothing else, please get him to a specialist - he'll face a lot of ricidule if it's not brought under control soon. He also needs you to be supportive
Most likely, he doesn't know when he's having an accident and is doing the best he can - so try not to make him feel worse -
good luck!
