I'll try to answer both of you.
Why I decided to do it then? I kept the hemor. well under control until Dec last year, when I went on a low carbohydrates diet to loose some weight. That ment I had to drop the fruit initially, and even with increased raw vegies and lots of water I started to have problems with constipation. I lost weight beautifully and still follow same diet, with some fruit now. But hemorroids flared up a bit, popping out late July. It felt like having grapes hanging out of my butt!!!! I got those back in with the help of Scheriproct ointment. I couldn't keep using the ointment for ever (or another 40 years!) as it thins the skin. I thought I could cope with the procedure better now, when I am younger, and the healing is faster.
I had a check up yesterday and the doc said last time he had someone with similiar problems was 4 years ago. So I guess I had so far a few of those "rare" side effects: softeners constipating me initially, then b.m. few times a day, incontinence (b.m. l!!!!I didn't cope with that very well!!!). I did have some trouble starting urinating first few days after the operation. The softeners causes me terrible rush between my buttock and itching - another rare side efect!!!! It took me about 8 days to get over all the drugs in my body - anasthetic, morphine, pethidine (had another of rare side affetcts, needles all over my body, due to lack of oxygen - or extreme pain as the doc said), being sick after morphine.
My op was on the 2 August so it's now almost 4 months.
Susan, I really can't remember when I got the fissure. It was probably few weeks after (2?); I don't think I had a b.m. since the op without some sort of discharge. The fissure is not causing me too much trouble, only when it opens up a little with b.m and bleeds. The bleeding stops really quickly.
I didn't have skin tags, just hemorrhoids.
