In Reply to: Does anyone know if Taxol and Taxotere are in the same family of drugs? posted by Gene on April 14, 2000 at 13:53:49:

: If someone has a severe reaction to Taxol could they take Taxotere?

they are in the same family of drugs called the taxanes. the acutal drug name is docetaxel the acutual drug name for taxol is paclitaxel. you can ask you'r doctor about the allergic reaction but i have only read about it in taxol.check with your doctor. also their is some debate the side effects are increased depending upon which drug its mixed with. if you had a bad prior reaction ask your doctors if it could be from the prior drug it was mixed with(sometimes cisplatin)
